Practical decisions
Bring hands-on experience to projects, budgets, and city processes.
Common-sense leadership built through work, family, and community.
A tradesperson, business builder, husband, father, and grandfather bringing real-world experience to local decisions.
The story behind the candidate
Calvin James VanderPloeg was born in Winnipeg and has called Surrey home for more than 25 years. His faith, family, and commitment to service continue to shape how he approaches community life.
A tradesperson by profession, Calvin has spent nearly four decades building and managing businesses in construction and hospitality. That work has put him in the room with homeowners, entrepreneurs, tradespeople, engineers, architects, and all levels of government.
Calvin is bringing that practical understanding to a council campaign focused on accountability, fiscal responsibility, and decisions that work in the real world.
What they bring to Surrey
Three priorities that connect Calvin VanderPloeg’s experience to the everyday work Surrey residents expect from public leadership.
Bring hands-on experience to projects, budgets, and city processes.
Ask whether a plan is affordable, useful, and accountable to taxpayers.
Work with the people who build, operate, and care for Surrey every day.
One team. One standard.
Surrey residents deserve public representatives who are present before election day and accountable after it. The work is local, practical, and shared.
